Description

"Nice shot, but there's a bit of confusion about bee life.
It would be more accurate to say "A worker bee's life - dedication to obtaining the nectar for her colony!"

ALL the workers in a hive are female.

The only males in a hive are the drones. They exist for a single purpose; they are flying sperm banks during a "Supersedure" or mating flight of a new queen.
The drone lucky enough to catch the virgin queen is rewarded with the pleasure of mating.
It's a very, VERY brief pleasure though. Once the coitus connection is made, it's permanent.
The queen then forces his body away, which rips his entire genitalia off; that part stays with the new queen. The now castrated male falls to the ground to die.

BTW, the queen doesn't really "control" the hive, she is the only reproductively active female in the average hive."
